The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has nabbed seven current and former senior Nakuru County Government officials, alongside a contractor, over an alleged Ksh120 million procurement fraud.
According to reports by EACC, the arrests followed investigations into county contracts awarded between the 2020/2021 and 2024/2025 financial years, with the anti-graft agency alleging that the suspects orchestrated irregular procurement deals worth more than Ksh120 million.
Investigations uncovered an alleged scheme in which a county official used companies owned by her husband to secure lucrative county tenders while serving in public office.
Additionally, the commission claimed that the companies received 29 county contracts valued at Ksh120,042,417, with investigators also tracing payments from the contracts to several senior county officials.
EACC said the investigations centred on three companies that allegedly conducted business with the Nakuru County Government while being owned and controlled by the spouse of a serving county employee, creating a direct conflict of interest.
Investigators alleged that the companies used false documents to unlawfully secure the tenders and that part of the money paid under the contracts was transferred into joint bank accounts held by the county official and her husband.
The commission further stated that investigations traced some of the contract proceeds to several senior county officials, raising further concerns over the management of public funds.
