Nyandarua County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) John Rioba has passed away, while Uasin Gishu Member of County Assembly (MCA) Regina Chumba sustained injuries after a multiple-vehicle accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
According to reports, the incident took place on Monday, June 15, after a lorry lost its brakes, hitting vehicles and causing a cascade that resulted in a nine-car crash, killing the police boss on the spot.
Reports indicate that the crash occurred after a truck heading to Nakuru reportedly developed brake failure, lost control, and rammed into several vehicles on the busy highway before resting in a ditch.

The accident promoted the emergency response teams, police officers, and members of the public to rush to the scene to assist victims and clear the wreckage caused by the multi-vehicle pile-up.
According to images seen by Whisperswire, several vehicles were severely damaged, with some lying across the road as emergency responders struggled to save the victims.
The accident further resulted in a huge traffic disruption along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway as emergency teams worked to rescue victims and restore traffic flow.
Unfortunately, Rioba died on the spot, MCA Chumba suffered chest injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
However, her current condition was not immediately disclosed.
