Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has dismissed social media reports claiming that the opening dates for the third term in basic education institutions and Teacher Training Colleges have been changed.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, August 19, the CS clarified that the academic calendar remains intact, warning the public against misleading information circulating on various online platforms.
Ogamba confirmed that basic education institutions will open for the third term on Monday, August 24, 2026, and run until October 23, 2026.

Teacher Training Colleges are also scheduled to reopen on the same date, with their term ending on November 6, 2026.
The CS further assured parents, teachers, and learners that all national assessments and examinations will proceed as initially scheduled, in line with the timetable issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Ogamba urged the public to rely solely on the Ministry’s official communication channels and field officers for accurate information, cautioning against the spread of unverified content on social media.
The clarification comes amid growing concern among parents and educators who had encountered conflicting information online regarding the school calendar.
The Ministry’s reassurance is expected to restore confidence and ensure smooth preparations for the upcoming term.
