President William Ruto has officially commissioned the Ngong Road flyover.
The Head of State commissioned the road, a Ksh. 3.58 billion project undertaken by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
According to KURA, the overpass is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Ngong Road through grade separation to address the persistent traffic congestion.
The Ngong Road/Naivasha Road flyover at the Junction Mall was reportedly financed through a loan from the Spain Corporate International Fund (FIEM).
KURA further said that the overpass would eliminate bottlenecks at the key junction on Ngong Road and cut down travel time for motorists, public transport users, and pedestrians alike.
The road project also included inclusion of Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) facilities, ensuring secure travel for pedestrians and cyclists.
President Ruto listed some of the projects that are ongoing in Nairobi including the Upperhill – Kenyatta Avenue viaduct which he claimed to be 60 percent done and the upgrading of the State-House road through a 1.6 billion investment that will modernize the strategic transport corridor.
Additionally, the Head of the Republic opined that the government is currently implementing Nairobi’s intelligent transport system that he believes will become one of the most significant investment in smart urban mobility on the continent.
He indicated that the first phase of 25 signaled junctions and a modern traffic management centre valued at approximately ksh 7 billion is already under construction.
