The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has condemned the acts of violence witnessed in Homa Bay during the Linda Mwananchi rally.
In a statement, the commission raised alarm over political violence and intolerance witnessed in Homa Bay County.
According to NCIC, such incidents threaten constitutional freedoms and national cohesion.
It therefore condemned what it described as political intolerance and acts of violence in the county.
NCIC further said that the incidents were unfortunate and represented a worrying trend that goes against the Constitution of Kenya and the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
“The National Cohesion and Integration Commission condemns the political intolerance and acts of violence witnessed in Homa Bay County. This is unfortunate and a worrying trend that goes against the Constitution of Kenya as well as the National Cohesion and Integration Act. Such actions raise serious security concerns regarding the protection of constitutional freedoms”, the statement read.
This comes after the Linda Mwananchi team, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, was faced with goons when they toured the county.
The leaders were reportedly attacked, their vehicles destroyed, and roads barricaded by a rival group reportedly supporting the government.
