Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has launched the Magharibi Movement as part of efforts to mobilise political and community support for President William Ruto in Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mudavadi noted that the movement brings together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia counties in a bid to strengthen the region’s political influence.
The movement has initially brought together representatives from 12 sub-counties in Kakamega County, which Mudavadi said would form the foundation of a wider grassroots network.

The network is expected to campaign for Ruto’s re-election in 2027 while also advancing development and other interests affecting residents across the Western region.
According to Mudavadi, the movement’s first priority will be to encourage more residents to register as voters.
He stated that increasing voter registration would strengthen Western Kenya’s voice in determining national leadership, influencing government priorities and securing a greater role for the region in the country’s development agenda.
The launch comes as political leaders across the country intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, with various formations seeking to consolidate support in key voting blocs.
Mudavadi, who has positioned himself as a key political mobiliser in Western Kenya, is expected to use the Magharibi Movement to expand the Kenya Kwanza administration’s support base in the region.
The movement brings together leaders from five counties, creating a regional platform focused on voter mobilisation, political participation and support for the government’s agenda ahead of the next General Election.
