Kameme FM has dismissed as fake a viral notice circulating on social media claiming that the station had been ordered off air by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).
The document, which bears the Mediamax Network branding, alleged that Kameme FM and Kameme FM Online would suspend operations for 30 days from June 18 to allow for an internal policy review and organizational restructuring.
It further claimed that the shutdown followed a show-cause notice issued by the Media Council of Kenya.
However, the vernacular radio station has disowned the statement, insisting that it did not originate from the broadcaster and urging the public to ignore it.
The incident adds to a growing trend of media houses pushing back against fake information circulated in their name.
Last month, Citizen TV also refuted claims that it had removed an interview with Kenyan skater Kevin Kiarie from its YouTube channel.
In a statement issued on May 13, the broadcaster termed the reports misleading, clarifying that the interview remained available across all its digital platforms.
During the interview, Kiarie recounted his journey into skating, revealing that he developed an interest in the sport while in high school before purchasing his first pair of skates with part of his first Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) disbursement after joining university.
The skater also spoke about the financial hurdles he encountered while pursuing international competitions, citing limited sponsorship, visa challenges and missed opportunities caused by a lack of funding.
