Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a blogger affiliated with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) over alleged hate speech and ethnic contempt on social media.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, the DCI identified the suspect as Justin Kinyua Mwangi, who describes himself on Facebook as a political storyteller, digital strategist and administrator of the Justin Kinyua Facebook account.
According to the DCI, Mwangi was arrested in Wanguru Town, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, following investigations into social media posts that allegedly amounted to hate speech and ethnic contempt.

The detectives said the suspect will face charges of hate speech and ethnic contempt under Sections 13 and 62 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
He is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
The DCI maintained that while freedom of expression is protected under the Constitution, it does not extend to content that incites hatred, promotes ethnic division or threatens national unity.
The investigative agency further warned that individuals who misuse digital platforms to spread divisive or inflammatory content will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of online political discourse as authorities continue to crack down on alleged incitement and hate speech on social media platforms.
