The High Court has set September 16, 2026, as the date for sentencing former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two co-accused, following their conviction for the murder of university student Sharon Otieno.
Obado, his former Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo, and former Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero were found guilty of the killing after the court ruled that prosecutors had presented enough evidence to prove their involvement beyond reasonable doubt.
The verdict was delivered on July 23 by Lady Justice Cecilia Githua, who found all three accused persons guilty of murder under the Penal Code.

Justice Githua outlined the specific roles each of the three played in the crime.
She ruled that Obado provided the motive, instigation, and financial backing for the murder.
Oyamo, she said, facilitated its execution, while Obiero ensured logistical support and helped conceal the offence.
The judge found that their actions demonstrated preparation, participation, and a shared intention to commit the killing.
Earlier, the court had established that Obado had a motive to kill Otieno after learning she was pregnant with his child.
The judge ruled that the former governor was worried about protecting his reputation and keeping his relationship with Sharon from becoming public.
She rejected his claim that he had accepted the pregnancy, describing the assertion as insincere.
The three remain in custody as they await their sentencing on September 16.
