Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised fresh concerns over investigations into the death of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, who reportedly died in a helicopter crash in February 2026.
While speaking during a media briefing on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, Gachagua alleged that he has intelligence that the fuel that was used in the helicopter was transported from Lodwar and was used to refuel the aircraft shortly before the fatal incident.
The former DP said he had received intelligence indicating that, after Ng’eno was dropped off at Endebess, Trans Nzoia County, the helicopter flew to Eldoret to refuel.
“On the fateful day after Ngeno was dropped at Endebess, the helicopter went to fuel in Eldoret. The pilot didn’t know the fuel he was about to put in and had been transported to the scene from Lodwar,” Gachagua claimed.
Additionally, he claimed that a vehicle believed to have transported jet fuel was detected by Kenya Revenue Authority officials at the Eldoret airfield.
It was intercepted, and its driver was questioned about the source of the fuel.
Despite that, the officials were allegedly instructed from Nairobi to release the driver after he denied transporting the fuel.
The former DP questioned whether the fuel could have contributed to the helicopter’s failure to gain sufficient altitude before the crash that claimed the life of Ng’eno and five others.
“Is it this fuel that caused the chopper not to pick up in high altitude? Is that why the pilot first came down and tried again to pick up? These are fundamental questions,” Gachagua added.
Furthermore, he demanded that the relevant authorities involved in the investigation, including the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), release the CCTV footage from the Eldoret airstrip to establish what happened at the facility on the day the helicopter was refuelled.
