Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims by former Attorney General Justin Muturi, former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and former Senator Lenny Kivuti that he wants leaders to dissolve their political parties and join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence on Wednesday, August 5, Gachagua described the remarks by the three Mt Kenya East leaders as misguided, insisting he has never asked anyone to fold their political parties to join DCP.
The DCP leader said he supports the existence of multiple political parties in the Mt Kenya region, arguing that political competition strengthens democracy and gives voters more choices.

Gachagua maintained that every party leader should focus on building and popularising their political outfit instead of blaming the growing influence of DCP.
He attributed DCP’s rising popularity in the region to sustained grassroots mobilisation, saying he and his team have invested significant effort in engaging residents through frequent political rallies.
The former Deputy President also criticised the performance of Peter Munya’s PNU party in the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, noting that its candidate garnered only 28 votes.
According to Gachagua, the poor showing reflected a lack of grassroots mobilisation, adding that political parties can only gain support through consistent engagement with voters rather than complaints about their rivals.
