Former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced that former Githunguri Member of Parliament Kago Wa Lydia has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
In a statement on Thursday, July 30, Gachagua said he received the former lawmaker at his Wamunyoro residence, describing DCP as “the party of the moment and the future.”
According to Gachagua, Kago informed him that residents of Githunguri had urged him to contest the constituency’s parliamentary seat on a DCP ticket in the next General Election.

Gachagua said he assured the former MP that the party would conduct free and fair nominations for all aspirants seeking elective positions.
He also challenged Kago to intensify grassroots mobilization by recruiting more members to the party as DCP continues to expand its support base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kago’s entry into DCP adds to a growing list of political leaders who have joined Gachagua’s party in recent weeks as it seeks to strengthen its presence, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.
“This morning, at Wamunyoro Residence, I have received Hon. Kago Wa Lydia who is former Member of Parliament for Githunguri Constituency into the DCP party, the party of the moment and the future. He has told me that the people of Githunguri have instructed him to vie for the seat as member of parliament under the DCP party. I have assured him of free and fair nominations and urged him to go on an overdrive in recruitment of member to the party,” Gachagua noted.
