EPRA Refutes Online Poster Claiming Fuel Price Changes

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has dismissed a viral poster circulating online that claims the regulator has revised fuel pump prices.

In a clarification issued on Wednesday, April 1, the authority stated that fuel price adjustments are governed by a legal and regulatory framework, and the claims in the poster do not reflect actual policy.

EPRA noted that the applicable fuel price schedule is announced on the 14th of every month in accordance with the Petroleum Act 2019 and relevant legal notices.

The fake poster, which mimics EPRA’s official format, suggested that fuel prices had been increased due to global geopolitical tensions affecting oil supply.

The clarification comes days after President Ruto outlined measures the government is taking to safeguard Kenya’s fuel supply and cushion the economy from the ongoing Middle East crisis.

In a statement on Monday, March 30, the Head of State warned that the conflict in the Middle East is already disrupting global markets and supply chains, placing pressure on economies around the world.

Ruto noted that the government has held high-level briefings with key ministries and stakeholders to assess the situation and plan a way forward.

He assured Kenyans that measures are in place to moderate any impact on fuel supply and pricing, noting that the Government-to-Government fuel procurement deal has helped shield the country from sudden price spikes.

Authorities continue to monitor global oil markets and are prepared to intervene if needed.
