Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that he will defend his position and remain in office, drawing comparisons with the political challenges that President William Ruto faced before rising to the presidency.
Speaking on Friday, August 21, Kindiki recalled the attempts to remove Ruto from his position, noting that the efforts failed because his supporters remained firm until the end.
He asserted that political leaders who were removed from office were not influential and insisted that he would not allow a similar fate to befall him.

Notably, the Deputy President’s remarks come days after he hit back at DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua over repeatedly mocking his voice.
In a statement on Sunday, August 16, Kindiki accused Gachagua of lacking meaningful contributions to politics, policy, and leadership, suggesting that mocking his voice was the only contribution his predecessor could make.
Kindiki stated that he would not be drawn into a personal exchange with Gachagua or discuss his physical structure, adding that he would not allow Gachagua to mislead Mount Kenya residents through political slogans and chants.
The DP also dismissed Gachagua’s claims that he interfered with his efforts to address illicit alcohol in Mount Kenya, saying his focus while serving as Interior Cabinet Secretary was on security.
He maintained that he never involved himself in politics during his tenure at the Interior Ministry and accused Gachagua of lying about being overruled on alcohol matters.
The exchange between the two leaders highlights the growing political tension within the Mount Kenya region as both seek to assert their influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
