Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has officially been installed as the leader of the Nairobi Chapter of the Luo Council of Elders, marking a significant step in his political journey ahead of the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race.
The installation took place on Thursday, July 30, during a gathering of the Luo Council of Elders and representatives from all 85 wards in Nairobi County.
According to the lawmaker, the council endorsed his efforts to engage with leaders and residents from different communities across the capital as he seeks broader support for his bid to become Nairobi’s next governor.

As part of the ceremony, Babu was also crowned as a Luo elder before being formally installed as the head of the Nairobi Chapter of the Luo Council of Elders.
The Embakasi East MP said the new role carries the responsibility of promoting unity, national cohesion, and integration among Nairobi’s diverse communities.
He also pledged to work towards meaningful development, improved governance, and better service delivery for city residents as he pursues his gubernatorial ambitions.
The installation comes as political leaders continue positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Babu among those who have publicly declared interest in succeeding Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
