Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has officially parted ways with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing a difficult but carefully considered decision.
Addressing the media on Thursday, July 30, Jumwa noted that she had resolved to leave the ruling party after extensive consultations and personal reflection.
The former CS accused President Ruto of sidelining and humiliating her despite the role she played in supporting his 2022 presidential bid.

She claimed she had been denied access to the State House during a meeting involving Coast leaders and alleged that her efforts to reach the President had been unsuccessful.
Jumwa also expressed frustration over what she described as being excluded from government despite her loyalty to the President.
Her exit comes months after the High Court nullified her appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board on May 20, 2026.
She is now the third prominent leader to quit UDA within a month, following Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Nyandarua politician Kiarie Badilisha, who both joined former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Jumwa previously served in President Ruto’s Cabinet as Public Service CS before being moved to the Gender Ministry during a Cabinet reshuffle.
She lost her Cabinet position after the President dissolved his Cabinet following the 2024 Gen Z protests and was not reappointed when a new team was unveiled.
