Kompany Impressed with a 2-1 Away Win against Celtic

Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory at Celtic on Wednesday, gaining the upper hand in their Champions League last-16 playoff tie.

The German side controlled possession for most of the first half and was rewarded just before the break with Olise’s stunning strike.

He received a long pass from Dayot Upamecano, shrugged off a defender, and curled a beautiful shot into the net in the 45th minute.

Bayern quickly doubled their lead after halftime when Kane volleyed in a Joshua Kimmich corner in the 49th minute.

Celtic Park pulled one back when Maeda beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from close range in the 79th minute. But despite their late push both on the pitch and from the stands they couldn’t find an equalizer.

Kompany was relieved to hear the final whistle, but insisted he was delighted with the way Bayern inflicted Celtic’s first home defeat in 33 games in all competitions.

“I know this place, I know it transcends performance sometimes. We dealt really well with the atmosphere for long spells before it could go too crazy. The last 10 minutes we had to defend and we did that well.” explained Kompany

He insisted that Celtic fans have not seen many loses at home especially in Europe, and he appreciated the importance of the game and the victory.

Bayern will be favourites to advance to the last 16 when Celtic visit Munich for the second leg on February 18.
