Kiambu County Senator Karungo Thang’wa has withdrawn his controversial Public Holidays Bill.
The Bill sought to review public holidays in the country.
In a letter addressed to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi dated 12th February 2025, the Kiambu Senator noted that he had decided to withdraw the Bill which was already scheduled for its second reading so as to focus on other bills he is sponsoring.
“I write to notify you of my decision to withdraw the Public Holidays Bill, which I am sponsoring from further consideration in the Senate. I note that the Bill is scheduled for second reading in today’s Order Paper. However, after careful deliberation, I have decided to prioritize other legislative proposals that I am sponsoring which I believe are of urgent and immediate national significance” part of the letter read.

Thang’wa went ahead and listed the other four Bill proposals among them includes having all bursaries consolidated so as to enable free secondary education.
His second proposal was equitable development of wards by Governors which he defined as a legislative intervention he is championing to compel county governments to ensure balanced and fair distribution of resources and development projects across all wards.
In his third proposal was seeking to have counties set realistic budgets and targets as estimates is not the way to go.
Thang’wa’s final bill proposal was the County State officer’s employment Bill which seeks to standardize the impeachment process ensuring fairness, transparency and adherence to due process thereby preventing impeachment based on flimsy, emotional and purely political grounds.
“Given the critical nature of these legislative initiatives and the need for urgent intervention in these areas, I believe that focusing on them will better serve the interests of people” he stated.
