Uganda opposition leader Kizza Besigye has gone on hunger strike.
He was allegedly abducted in Kenya but has since been detained by the Uganda authorities following charges of possession of pistols and attempting to purchase weapons abroad.
He later faced other charges of treason whose and inciting violence when he led a protest against high commodity prices in 2022.
Besigye’s trial was postponed in January, and it has not been clear when his court case will be heard.

Latest report showed that the opposition leader had gone on hunger Strike.
According to his lawyer Elias Lukwago, the protest began on Monday 10th February 2024 to show his discomfort over his ‘illegal detention’.
Lukwago said that his health has deteriorated due to hunger strike making his unable to attend court hearings that had been scheduled.
The UN and several rights organizations voiced their concern about the suppression of the political opposition in Uganda in the run-up up to the 2027 elections.
The Army Spokesperson on the other hand noted that Colonel Kizza Besigye would not be released until he faced the full extent of marital law.
