A baby was found alive after being buried in Kwa Nyunyi village, Makueni County.
While confirming the incident, the area assistant chief, Francis Kaluma, ordered the family to exhume the child’s body.
The area assistant chief also disclosed that he received a tip from neighbours.

“I was informed that a woman had delivered and buried her baby alive. I went there and demanded to know where the baby was buried. When they exhumed the body, we were shocked to find the child still alive,” Kaluma said.
After the exhumation the baby was rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital for medical attention, but sadly succumbed to injuries and passed away on Sunday morning.
The mother of the child, along with the grandmother, have been arrested by police and detained at Salama Police Station.
They are awaiting arraignment in court to face charges related to the death of the infant and the illegal burial.
The baby was one-day-old.
