Sergio Ramos signs a one-year deal with Monterrey as a free agent and will wear the No. 93 on his new chapter in Mexico.
Sergio Ramos will wear No. 93 for Monterrey in honor of his iconic 90+3 minute game-tying goal in the 2014 Champions League final.
Both himself and Real Madrid announced this on social media.
His goal forced extra time against Atlético Madrid, and Real Madrid went on to win their 10th Uefa Champions League title.
Real Madrid expressed their pleasure in being honoured by the legendary no-nonsense defender towards his treasured gesture.
Ramos, a 2010 World Cup winner with Spain and two-time European Champion with Madrid, had been without a team since his contract with Sevilla expired last summer.
Sergio Ramos: “The minute 93 was epic. This is a tribute to Real Madrid and my career.”
“A historic defender in world football, multiple champion with Real Madrid and PSG and World Cup champion with Spain. Welcome to Club de Futbol Monterrey. Your leadership, quality, and winning mentality will take the Blue and White to great heights,” Rayados expressed in a statement during the unveiling.
Monterrey, commonly known as Rayados, are one of three Mexican teams that will participate in the first edition of the expanded Club World Cup set to be played in the U.S. next summer.
