Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez Ruled Out for the Rest of the Season

Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The Manchester United defender suffered a serious knee injury during the match against Crystal Palace.

Upon diagnosis, Lisandro tore his ACL and is thus set for knee surgery.

The former Ajax man Martinez had contested for the ball with Palace man Ismaila Sarr but suffered a foul during the duel in the 77th minute. However, he was unable to continue the game despite receiving attention from the medics.

The Argentine international was visibly shaken and in tears, as he was stretchered off the field. This expressed serious concerns about the severity of the injury.

The towering defender will be sidelined for up to nine months.

This is not Martinez’s first significant injury; he has a history of setbacks including a fractured metatarsal, medial ligament damage, and a calf complaint, highlighting a recurring theme of injury problems throughout his time at Manchester United.

United now face a defensive dilemma ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Leicester City. Matthijs de Ligt, who replaced Martinez against Palace, is the likely candidate to step in, while Victor Lindelof remains another option. However, Jonny Evans is still recovering from a muscle injury, further limiting Amorim’s choices.
