Kenyan Journalist Ian Wafula has departed the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) after two-year tenure.
Wafula announced on his X account formerly known as twitter on Monday 3rd February 2025 that he was going freelance and quitting BBC.
In his X post, the journalist, who was covering Sudan, DRC and Mozambique conflicts admitted that it was a tough task.
After nearly two years as a BBC Africa Security Correspondent, I’m going freelance. Covering conflicts like Sudan, Mozambique and DRC was tough but sharing stories of those impacted was fulfilling.
Wafula wrote.
Wafula also announced that he was ready to collaborate and work with others as a freelancer.

Wafula had previously joined BBC in August 2018 as a senior presenter for four years then departed.
He therefore went to the United Kingdom to study for his master’s degree in international journalism at Cardiff University.
He later on worked at K24 where he was the host at K24 Alfajiri and also Standard group as a reporter with KTN investigative desk.
It was then that he received appointment to BBC to work as Africa security correspondent.
