US Secretary of State Urges Kagame to Implement Immediate Ceasefire in DR Congo

US Secretary of State Macro Rubio has pressed Rwanda for an immediate cease fire in the Democratic republic of Congo.

This was in a call with Kagame Rubio who stressed that the United States is deeply troubled by the escalation of the ongoing conflict in Eastern DRC, particularly the fall of Goma to the Rwandan-backed M23 armed group.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame shared the details of the talks he had with Macro over the phone call on His X account on 29th January 2025.

Had a productive conversation with Secretary Rubio on the need to ensure a ceasefire in Eastern DRC and address the root causes of the conflict once and for all, and on the importance of deepening our bilateral ties based upon respect for our respective national interests. I look forward to working with the Trump administration to create the prosperity and security that people of our region deserve.

Kagame wrote on X.

The M23 in recent days have advanced to Goma, taking control of the airport.
