Lecturers and staff of Technical University of Kenya (TUK) have officially declared their strike after the seven-day notice period.

The lecturers said they physically notified Parliament, the Treasury and the Ministry of Education who have continuously ignored their warnings.

Among their grievances included the non-payment of salaries since September, alleged failure by the Institution to remit statutory deductions such as NHIF, NSSF and SACCO contributions and reported loss of pension funds worth Ksh. 5 billion.

Approximately Ksh 5,3 billion deducted from university staff over the last 15 years cannot be accounted for. We have been deducted money to pay loans, but we don’t know where that money goes because every day here is on CRB.

Jacob Musembi, electronic and computer engineering lecturer at TUK claimed.

TUK is among the Institutions of higher learning to strike with most of the public universities reeling in debts.

They have vowed to continue with the strike until all their demands are met, and the agreed Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached.
