This created attention to many locals who found the comments to insensitive given the importance of promoting accurate information about menstrual health and wildlife safety.

In response to the backlash, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili issued a statement on Monday 20th January 2025.

As a government that prides itself on upholding the dignity of all citizens, we offer our unreserved apologies for the remarks made by Mrs. Nzilani to the people of Makueni County and Kenya at large.

She stated.

The comments were understandably caused widespread discontent, and we assure the public of our unwavering commitment and accountability and reform.

She added.
