Media editor and Activist Maria Sarungi Tsehai has been freed.
Tsehai was kidnapped in Kilimani neighborhood in Nairobi on Sunday afternoon 12th January 2025.
According to reports, she was abducted by three hooded and armed men at Chaka place where she had gone to a beauty salon.

The three men blocked her taxi and bundled her into a Toyota Noah before driving away.
The media editor was released later that evening.
This was after the human rights groups such as Amnesty International Kenya and the Law Society of Kenya looked into the matter in haste.
With the release, Tsehai shared an emotional video where she appreciated Kenyans and Tanzanians thanking for the fact that she is safe and good.
I am safe and God is good.
She spoke.
According to an interview by Citizen TV, Tsehai’s husband said that they had been living in Nairobi after fleeing Kenya’s southern neighborhood during the regime of Suluhu’s authoritarian predecessor John Magufuli who issued a warrant of arrest against the activist.

Previously, there had been protest against abductions in Kenya which had become an issue due to increased rate of abductions which began in June during the Finance bill protest 2024.
5 of the abductees were released.
According to the reports, the abductees might had posted an Al image criticizing the government.
