Uganda Law Council has granted Martha Karua authority to represent Dr. Besigye in legal battle in Uganda who is in remand alongside Obeid Lutale.
They were caught and accused of charges of being in possession of two pistols and soliciting with the aim of compromising the country’s national security.
Besigye denied the charges and challenged the court’s jurisdiction.

He was therefore taken to military jail in Kampala.
Besigye spent his Christmas last year in prison whereby his wife found it as not fair as she wanted to hand over the food she had brough for her husband directly in prison.
Karua has been denied the chance to represent Besigye in court, but she resubmitted her application expressing deep concerns about the Council’s December decision to dismiss her initial application to represent her clients.
The Kenya politician had applied for special practicing certificate to appear before the general court Marital which remanded Dr. Besigye and Obeid but her application was declined by Uganda’s Law council.
Uganda’s law council is the authority that grants licenses to lawyers to practice according to section 18 of the Advocates Act.
Dr. Besigye and his companion are expected to return to court Monday, 7th January 2025.
