Three people have reportedly been arrested by anti-riot police officers while demonstrating outside Mombasa Technical University.

According to human rights activist Hussein Khalid, the protestors were arrested and detained for allegedly demonstrating against the forced disappearances witnessed in the country recently.

Moreover in  videos shared by Khalid, the police were captured confronting a group of demonstrators who hoisted placards before cornering them and detaining them inside one of the police vehicles.

Khalid has called on the trio’s immediate release adding that the police were notified about the protests before today’s demonstrations.

“At least 3 persons have been arrested just now in Mombasa outside Mombasa Technical University. We demand their immediate release. Police were notified of the protest and they received and stamped the notification,” Khalid commented.

Addressing the press after the arrest of their fellow protesters, the Mombasa activists vowed to continue with their demonstrations until all those who have been abducted in recent weeks are released.

The activists went on to accuse the police officers of allegedly interfering with their demonstrations despite obtaining permission to hold the protests.

“The police officers have come here in large numbers and are claiming that we won’t demonstrate, we want to tell them that we have the right to protest as per the constitution and we will continue with it until all those who were abducted are released.”
