Manchester United Stage Dramatic Comeback to Beat Roma 3-2 in Champions League

Manchester United produced a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat AS Roma 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, November 3, ending a nine-match winless run and giving manager Michael Carrick a much-needed victory at Old Trafford.

Roma appeared in control after taking a 2-0 lead within the opening 17 minutes.

Matias Soule opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Donyell Malen converted a penalty six minutes later following a handball by Ayden Heaven.

United responded after the break, with captain Bruno Fernandes reducing the deficit through a retaken penalty in the 58th minute after the initial effort had been saved.

The goal changed the atmosphere at Old Trafford and gave the home side renewed belief.

Matheus Cunha then became the match-winner, scoring in the 83rd and 86th minutes to complete United’s turnaround.

His second goal, a powerful finish at the near post, sent the home supporters into celebration.

However, Cunha’s night ended controversially after he received a second yellow card in stoppage time.

His first booking had come during his celebration after scoring the winner, before a late challenge on Roma defender Leonardo Balerdi resulted in his dismissal.

The victory provides a significant boost to United’s Champions League campaign and eases some of the pressure on Carrick.

Roma, meanwhile, will be left disappointed after surrendering a two-goal advantage in a match they had appeared to control in the first half.
