Sakaja Details Meeting with Oburu Oginga After Joining ODM

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has detailed his meeting with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Senator Oburu Oginga following his decision to join the party.

In an update on Monday, November 2, Sakaja revealed that he visited Oburu at his residence, where he received an official welcome into the ODM fraternity.

The governor said his entry into the party presented an opportunity to promote the principles championed by its late former leader, Raila Odinga, including social justice, inclusivity and national unity.

Sakaja expressed his commitment to working with the party’s leadership and members to strengthen ODM while preserving Raila’s political legacy.

Oburu also confirmed hosting the Nairobi governor at his home, welcoming his admission into the party and describing it as a positive development as ODM continued to expand its membership.

Earlier, Sakaja was officially received into ODM at Chungwa House in Nairobi by senior party officials, including Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati and National Chairperson Gladys Wanga.

During the event, the governor reflected on his political relationship with Raila, noting that their association began when he entered politics and continued through his election as Nairobi governor.

He also recalled facing criticism from political leaders who opposed his close ties with Raila and his decision to work with the former Prime Minister before the formation of the Broad-Based Government.

Sakaja’s move to ODM marks a significant shift in his political alignment, having been elected Nairobi governor in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
