Lazio Move Three Points Clear at the Top After Late Victory Over Cagliari

Lazio moved three points clear at the top of Serie A after producing a late comeback to defeat Cagliari 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, November 1.

The hosts entered the match knowing that Inter Milan’s defeat to AC Milan on Saturday had created an opportunity to extend their advantage at the summit of the Italian league.

However, Cagliari took an unexpected lead in the 21st minute when M’Bala Nzola found the back of the net, putting pressure on Lazio to respond in front of their home supporters.

Lazio restored parity nine minutes before half-time through Gustav Isaksen, who produced a delicate finish from the edge of the penalty area to bring the hosts back into the contest.

The match remained closely contested after the interval, with Lazio pushing forward in search of a winner.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 83rd minute when Andrea Pinamonti headed home after Alfonso Pedraza redirected Isaksen’s cross into his path.

Cagliari’s task became more difficult in the closing stages when Adam Obert received a second yellow card for bringing down Isaksen, leaving the visitors with ten players.

The victory lifted Lazio to 28 points, three ahead of second-placed Inter Milan.

The result also marked a historic start to the season, with Lazio winning nine of their opening ten Serie A matches for the first time.
