Everton Eliminate Newcastle to Reach Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

Everton advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after defeating Newcastle United 3-1 in their fourth-round encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday, October 29.

The victory secured Everton a place in the last eight and ended Newcastle’s hopes of winning the competition for the second time in three seasons.

James Garner opened the scoring for Everton with his first goal of the season after a defensive mistake allowed the hosts to capitalise on a long clearance from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Hayden Hackney extended Everton’s advantage with his first goal for the club, finishing from close range after a move involving Thierno Barry.

The goal gave the hosts a two-goal cushion despite Newcastle having enjoyed periods of attacking pressure.

Newcastle attempted to recover after the break, making three substitutions at half-time and creating several opportunities.

However, Pickford produced important saves to deny the visitors and keep Everton in control.

Everton eventually made the game safe when Thierno Barry scored their third goal after a move involving James Garner and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Newcastle managed a late consolation through defender Dan Burn, who headed home from an Anthony Elanga cross.

The result sends Everton into a quarter-final meeting with fourth-tier Fleetwood Town.

The match also attracted attention because Everton manager David Moyes dropped Jack Grealish from the squad for disciplinary reasons after the winger reportedly missed training without permission.
