Mathare United recorded their first victory of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season after defeating Tusker FC 2-1 at Embu Stadium on Thursday, October 29, in a match that saw the hosts finish with ten players
The Slum Boys took the lead in the 30th minute through Joshua Nyatini, who reacted quickly after Tusker goalkeeper Brian Bwire punched away an Evans Maliachi delivery before firing the ball into the net.
Mathare doubled their advantage shortly before half-time when Michael Oduor, playing against his former club, converted a delivery from Elli Asieche to give the hosts a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
Tusker returned from the interval with renewed determination and reduced the deficit in the 51st minute through Fabian Adikiny, who finished from close range after receiving a cutback from Victor Mbaoma.
Mathare’s challenge increased when Michael Mutinda received a second yellow card for a foul on Yakeen Muteheli, leaving the hosts to defend their advantage with ten men for the remainder of the contest.
Despite Tusker’s attempts to find an equaliser, goalkeeper Kevin Ouru produced important saves to preserve Mathare’s lead.
The result lifted Mathare out of the relegation zone and handed Tusker their first league defeat of the campaign.
