One officer was killed and two others injured after suspected machete-wielding criminals attacked a team manning a Mombasa County Government cess collection barrier in Likoni.
Mombasa County Police Commander Stella Jerono confirmed the incident on Monday, 26 October 2026, saying the team comprised county government enforcement officers and two Kenya Police Service officers.
The attackers descended on the officers for reasons that remain unclear, leaving one officer dead and two others injured.
Jerono said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.
Security agencies are pursuing the suspects, with police vowing to ensure those involved face prosecution.
The police commander also revealed that a firearm belonging to the officers went missing during the incident. Investigators suspect the attackers may have taken the weapon and are working to recover it.
Jerono urged members of the public with information about the attack to share it with investigators to help identify and apprehend the suspects.
