Ruto Recalls Campaigning for Kalonzo in Mwingi North 34 Years Ago

President William Ruto has revealed that he campaigned for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the 1992 General Election when he contested the Mwingi North parliamentary seat on a KANU ticket.

Speaking in Kitui County on Monday, 26 October 2026, Ruto recalled that he was a member of the Youth for KANU ’92 (YK92) campaign group at the time and helped Kalonzo secure victory in the constituency.

The President urged Kalonzo to reciprocate the support by backing his re-election bid in the 2027 General Election.

Ruto also cited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s past association with Kalonzo, claiming that Kindiki was part of the Wiper leader’s presidential campaign team during the 2007 General Election.

He argued that the two leaders’ past support for Kalonzo should inform his political decisions ahead of the 2027 polls.

Additionally, Ruto claimed that some of Kalonzo’s opposition allies were planning to subject him to another interview similar to the one he reportedly faced before the 2022 General Election.

The President cautioned Kalonzo about his political allies, alleging that the same individuals involved in the previous interview were preparing another one ahead of the next election.
