Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango has faced criticism after women in the county received underwear bearing his name, with residents linking the items to his 2027 gubernatorial campaign.
Speaking on Thursday, September 24, residents criticised the Senator for putting his name on personal clothing and distributing the items as part of his political activities.
Some residents urged Murango to adopt more appropriate campaign strategies, arguing that essential items such as food or shoes would have been more useful to beneficiaries.

They also accused the Senator of interfering with the mandate of Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina by allegedly using National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) resources to purchase and distribute the items.
Maina, however, urged residents in Kutus to provide evidence showing who distributed the merchandise and whether it carried NGAAF branding.
She offered a KSh50,000 reward for information, while suggesting that individuals behind the distribution could be attempting to damage Murango’s reputation.
The controversy comes days after former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga faced criticism over wearing school uniforms during a sanitary pad distribution drive in schools across Nairobi County.
Some Kenyans questioned the appropriateness of Omanga dressing as a student and appearing to dance with students during the campaign, arguing that the approach could blur the distinction between political outreach and the role of public leaders.
