The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has approved the prosecution of Kimutai Maritim over the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, bringing to five the number of suspects set to face murder charges in the case.
Maritim will be charged alongside Rose Mbithe, her daughter Angela Mulwa, her son Chris Mulwa and Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi.
The five suspects are expected to appear before the High Court for plea-taking on September 29, 2026, following directions issued by Justice Alexander Muteti.

Maritim was arrested on August 22, 2026, after he allegedly attempted to visit suspects held at Pangani Police Station.
He was reportedly intercepted while carrying a loaf of bread and a packet of milk intended for the detainees.
During earlier court proceedings, investigators linked Maritim to the alleged planning of the offence and indicated that he could assist in tracing other suspects who remain at large.
The ODPP has also disclosed that three other suspects arrested in Uganda in connection with Dr Mutiso’s murder will return to court on October 1, 2026.
The three, Police Constable Collins Bett Kilangat, Pius Muiruri Mbugua and Samuel Karanja Gathoni, are being held for 30 days to allow investigators to complete their inquiries.
They were arrested on August 29, 2026, at Kyanja Heights Flats in Nakawa, Kampala, before being brought back to Kenya.
The developments bring the number of suspects arrested in connection with the case to eight, with the five facing murder charges and the three arrested in Uganda remaining in custody as investigations continue.
