Wiper Patriotic Front spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru has defended party leader Kalonzo Musyoka against claims that he borrowed the name “Ukombozi” from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s proposed political party.
According to Njiru, Kalonzo had promoted the term months before it became associated with Sifuna’s political plans, pointing to his use of the phrase “Komboa Kenya” in April 2025.
In his statement, the spokesperson claimed that Kalonzo was using the phrase at a time when Sifuna was still the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General and the broad-based government agreement was being implemented.
“HE. Kalonzo has been using the phrase ‘Komboa Kenya.’ Records show that as early as April 29, 2025, while Sifuna was still ODM SG and the broad-based government MoU was being signed,” Njiru stated.
According to the Wiper Spokesperson, the name “Ukombozi” was then drafted from the word “Komboa”.
“Musyoka had already adopted and promoted the term. The word Ukomboa has given birth to Ukombozi,” he added.
His remarks comes after DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, who said the coalition had submitted its rebranding proposal before the name became associated with Sifuna.
