A woman has been arrested after she was allegedly found attempting to smuggle tools believed to have been intended to help three remanded suspects escape from custody at Ruai Police Station.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that the incident was uncovered when 18-year-old Christine Njoki Gitau visited the station carrying a plate of rice and meat, which she claimed was a meal for three friends being held at the facility.
According to the DCI, Gitau had requested to visit Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru, who are being held at Ruai Police Station over alleged robbery with violence and gang rape offences.

The police said the three suspects are accused of operating an anonymous TikTok account that allegedly targeted young women by luring them to meetings before assaulting and robbing them of their valuables.
The alleged plot to facilitate their escape was discovered when officers subjected the food brought to the station to a routine security check.
The DCI said officers inspecting the meal discovered a pair of pliers and a shear concealed underneath the food.
The discovery raised suspicion that the tools had allegedly been intended to help the three suspects break out of custody.
Gitau was subsequently arrested and placed in police custody as investigators began probing the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt to smuggle the items into the station.
The DCI said the investigation would seek to establish whether other individuals were involved in the suspected plan and determine how the tools were meant to be used.
The three suspects remain in custody as investigations into the allegations continue.
The latest incident highlights the security measures employed at police stations to prevent prohibited items from reaching people held in custody and to detect attempts to facilitate escapes.
The allegations against the suspects have not been tested in court, and they remain innocent until proven guilty.
