Sifuna Dismisses Claims of Uhuru’s Backing for Linda Mwananchi Movement

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has dismissed allegations that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is bankrolling the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Addressing the claims on Tuesday night, July 28, Sifuna said the former president has no financial involvement in the movement or its rallies.

He acknowledged that he occasionally speaks with Uhuru, citing his position as the leader of the Azimio coalition and his long-standing political relationship with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

However, Sifuna insisted that the former president is not involved in shaping the movement’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna also disclosed that the Linda Mwananchi movement has so far raised KSh6.5 million through its public paybill, attributing the contributions to ordinary Kenyans who believe in the initiative’s agenda.

According to the Nairobi senator, the donations demonstrate a shift toward public-funded politics, where citizens directly support leaders and political movements instead of relying on wealthy financiers.

He further pledged that the movement would account for all the funds received once the campaign concludes, maintaining that the money is solely intended to support campaign activities and not for the personal benefit of any individual.
