Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Douglas Ngotho arrived at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Tuesday, July 28, aboard a public service matatu ahead of his swearing-in ceremony.
Photos shared on his social media pages showed the newly elected legislator travelling alongside ordinary passengers instead of using official transport, a move that quickly drew attention online.
Ngotho was sworn in at Parliament Buildings, formally beginning his tenure as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency.

Taking the oath of office allows him to officially assume his parliamentary responsibilities, including participating in National Assembly proceedings and representing residents of the constituency.
His swearing-in comes nearly two weeks after he secured a landslide victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election held on July 16 on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.
Ngotho garnered 35,440 votes, comfortably defeating United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who received 5,450 votes. Jubilee Party candidate Wilson Mwaniki Kigwa finished with 198 votes, while Stephen Wanyoike Waithaka of the National Liberal Party (NLP) received 103 votes.
Edwin Kariiri Muchiri of the Party of National Unity (PNU) garnered 28 votes, Abdifatah Hussein Abdullahi of the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) secured 19 votes, Edward Mathenge Mwaniki of the Kenya Mabadiliko Movement (KMM) received 16 votes, while People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Rachael Wangui Njoroge finished last with 11 votes.
Following the completion of the vote tally, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer Antony Njiraine declared Ngotho the winner and presented him with the certificate of election.
After receiving the certificate, Ngotho thanked the people of Ol Kalou for entrusting him with the mandate to represent them, pledging to serve the constituency with integrity, humility, and dedication.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of former MP David Kiaraho in February 2025, prompting the IEBC to conduct a by-election to fill the position. Ngotho will now serve the remainder of the current parliamentary term.
