The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has threatened to call a nationwide strike if the government fails to implement the provisions of the doctors’ Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in the July 2026 salaries.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah said the government no longer had any justification for delaying the implementation of the basic salary adjustments provided for under the 2014–2021 CBA and the Return to Work Formula.
According to Atellah, all the necessary processes had already been completed to facilitate the salary review.

He noted that county governments had acknowledged the CBA provisions and confirmed the availability of funds, while the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) had provided guidance on the applicable basic salary scales.
He further stated that the Ministry of Public Service had confirmed the availability of the active HRIS-k.e special code required to process the salary adjustments.
The union has directed all Branch Executive Committees (BECs) and doctors in the 47 counties to scrutinize their July 2026 payslips to determine whether the agreed salary increments have been effected.
Atellah warned that counties that fail to implement the revised salary structure or provide a clear timetable for settling outstanding salary arrears would face immediate industrial action.
He also indicated that the union was prepared to institute contempt of court proceedings against accounting officers in counties that fail to comply with the agreement.
The KMPDU Secretary General maintained that there was no room for further negotiations, arguing that the timelines agreed upon during the union’s Annual Delegates Conference had already expired.
He said the union had fulfilled its obligations by engaging the National Government, county governments and the Ministry of Health through the required legal and negotiation processes, adding that it was now the responsibility of the relevant authorities to honour their commitments under the agreement.
Atellah maintained that the union would continue pursuing the full implementation of the CBA to safeguard doctors’ rights and ensure they receive the remuneration agreed upon through the negotiated settlement.
