Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has clarified due to public concerns that parking fees in the city have not been increased despite widespread reports suggesting otherwise.
In a statement shared on his social media account , Sakaja dismissed claims of a fee hike and published the official parking charges applicable in Nairobi County’s public parking spaces.
“Do not listen to fake news. Nairobi parking fees have not been increased,” Sakaja stated.
Nairobi County dismisses claims of increasing parking fees
The official rates released by the county shows motorists will continue paying Ksh300 per day for saloon cars, Ksh500 for vans and pickups, and Ksh1,000 for lorries of up to five tonnes, canters and minibuses.
In addition, the county said motorists who use public parking regularly can opt for monthly seasonal tickets, with saloon cars charged Ksh5,000, vans Ksh6,000 and heavy vehicles Ksh12,500.
This comes after widespread speculation after reports claimed that daily CBD parking fees could increase from Ksh300 to Ksh535, causing concern among motorists across the capital.
However, the county emphasised that the figure reflects the cost of service delivery and does not represent the current parking charges.
It further stated that any future adjustment to parking fees would require public participation and approval through the annual Finance Act before taking effect.
