The government has announced the completion of the Suam One-Stop Border Post (OSBP), a major infrastructure project expected to boost cross-border trade, regional connectivity and the movement of people between Kenya and Uganda.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the facility, located in Endebess Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, is fully built and awaiting official commissioning before it begins operations.
Omollo said the project forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen regional integration through strategic investments in border infrastructure aimed at improving trade, tourism and the efficient movement of goods and people across East Africa.

He noted that the Suam OSBP is a bilateral facility jointly serving Kenya and Uganda and has been designed to streamline border operations by bringing together key government agencies under one roof.
The border post houses agencies including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Immigration, Port Health, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and agricultural inspection services, enabling a single-stop clearance system for travellers and cargo.
According to Omollo, the facility is equipped with integrated customs and immigration services as well as automated surveillance systems to enhance border security, improve service delivery and reduce the time required to clear goods and travellers.
He added that once operational, the Suam OSBP is expected to ease congestion at the Busia and Malaba border crossings while strengthening trade corridors linking Kenya with Uganda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
