Kenyan content creators are set for new opportunities after ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, announced it will expand AI creator tools to Kenya.
The announcement was made by ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 during a visit to Beijing, China.
According to CS, Volcano Engine, the cloud computing and artificial intelligence arm of ByteDance, has partnered with a local Kenyan firm to launch the new platform.
The platform, which will be called Tazama, will be based in Kenya, giving content creators access to artificial intelligence tools, localisation support, and payment systems to help them monetise their content and reach audiences in China and other international markets.
Additionally, Kabogo noted that the initiative is expected to position Kenya as a regional hub for digital content creation while opening opportunities for creators across Africa.
He further explained that the partnership will not only enable Kenyan creators to access China’s digital market of more than one billion users but will also promote African stories, music and creative content to new global audiences.
The platform will support African-language content, beginning with Kiswahili, allowing creators to produce content in local languages while expanding their global reach.
It will also provide new income opportunities to thousands of content creators, especially youth, who have recently shifted to content creation as a source of income.
