Kalonzo-Sifuna Ticket Emerges Top Opposition Choice in New Infotrak Poll

A new survey by Infotrak Research and Consulting has ranked a Kalonzo Musyoka-Edwin Sifuna presidential ticket as the most preferred opposition pairing ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The poll, released on Monday, July 13, shows the Kalonzo-Sifuna combination leading with 23 per cent support.

A ticket featuring Kalonzo as the presidential candidate and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as running mate follows in second place with 16 per cent support.

The reverse arrangement, with Matiang’i as the presidential candidate and Kalonzo as deputy, ranks third at 15 per cent.

Other proposed opposition combinations received significantly lower backing. A Kalonzo-Rigathi Gachagua ticket attracted 5 per cent support, while Gachagua-Kalonzo, Gachagua-Matiang’i, Matiang’i-Gachagua and Matiang’i-Martha Karua each received 4 per cent.

A Kalonzo-Martha Karua ticket polled 3 per cent.

Despite the Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket emerging as the frontrunner, the survey indicates that a sizeable section of voters remains undecided, with 21 per cent saying they were unsure which opposition ticket they preferred.

Regionally, the Kalonzo-Sifuna pairing enjoys its strongest support in Western Kenya, where it garnered 36 per cent.

The ticket also performed strongly in Eastern (28 per cent), Coast (26 per cent), Nyanza (26 per cent) and Nairobi (21 per cent), while recording 19 per cent support in Rift Valley, 17 per cent in North Eastern and 14 per cent in the Central region.

The Kalonzo-Matiang’i ticket posted its strongest showing in the Eastern region with 22 per cent support and also performed well in several other regions, including Coast, Central and Rift Valley, where it polled 15 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Matiang’i-Kalonzo combination recorded its best performance in Nairobi and Nyanza, attracting 19 per cent support in each region.

The survey further found that the Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket is particularly popular among young voters. It attracted 31 per cent support among respondents aged 18 to 26 years, with its popularity gradually declining across older age groups.

By gender, the pairing was preferred by 26 per cent of male respondents and 20 per cent of female respondents.

The Kalonzo-Matiang’i and Matiang’i-Kalonzo combinations received relatively similar levels of support among both men and women.

Infotrak also noted that voter indecision remains high, with 21 per cent of respondents yet to settle on a preferred opposition ticket.

Nairobi recorded the highest proportion of undecided voters at 27 per cent, followed by the Coast region at 25 per cent, highlighting that the opposition race remains far from settled.
