Fake Nairobi Official Found Guilty, Fined Ksh237,000

A suspect in the city who posed as a Nairobi City County enforcement officer to extort money from a motorist has been convicted by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for bribery.

According to EACC, he was sentenced on Thursday, July 9, after the court found him guilty of four counts of receiving bribes and one count of impersonation following investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The suspect is said to have falsely claimed to be an enforcement officer attached to the Nairobi City County Inspectorate Department and convinced a complainant that he could facilitate the release of an impounded motorcycle.

The commission said the accused used the false identity to mislead the motorist into paying him money in exchange for the purported service.

Additionally, the court found that he had no authority to act on behalf of the county government and had deliberately misrepresented himself to obtain financial benefit from the complainant.

Following the conviction, the court imposed a cumulative fine of Ksh237,000, with him set to serve a one-year jail term if he fails to pay the amount.
