The main mission of the event will be to empower communities through education as its theme states ‘Run and educate’.
Cross-country serves as platform for supporting education for underprivileged children.
According to Eliud Kipchoge, education is the tool that bridges societal gaps and fosters equality.
His involvement towards the event shows the importance of using sports for a meaningful change.
World record holder, Faith Kipyegon is also passionate about the event. She said in an interview with the press that she was really waiting for the event to empower communities.
The Great Chepsaita Cross-Country run was launched in 2023.
The aim was to merge athletic competition with community impact.
Since the main aim of the event will be to offer scholarships, the scholarships will be awarded to the top 100 finishers in each of the 11 competition categories.
The 2024 edition aims at attracting 10,000 participants.
Apart from the races that will take place, the organizers of the event will also give back to the community by planting trees, a free medical camp to enhance community health and cultural exhibition that celebrates the region’s rich heritage.
