Several Feared Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

Several people are feared dead following a tragic road accident involving a Tahmeed bus and multiple other vehicles along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway on the night of Monday, July 7.

The accident occurred on the busy stretch between Machakos Junction and Kathumani Junction, with preliminary reports indicating that the collision involved a 50-seater Tahmeed bus, a truck, and at least four other vehicles. 

The exact cause of the crash had not been established by the time of publication.

Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic situation as emergency responders, police officers, and members of the public rushed to rescue passengers trapped inside the mangled vehicles. Rescue efforts continued late into the night as authorities worked to free survivors and account for all those involved.

Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds gathering at the accident scene while emergency teams used specialized equipment to access passengers trapped inside the overturned bus and other wrecked vehicles.

Images shared online revealed the Tahmeed bus lying on its side after sustaining extensive damage in the collision. 

Several of the other vehicles involved were also badly wrecked, with debris scattered across the highway, forcing traffic to slow significantly as rescue operations progressed.

The number of casualties and those injured had not been officially confirmed by authorities at the time of publication. 

However, preliminary reports indicated that several people were feared dead, with many others believed to have sustained injuries of varying severity.

Police are expected to launch investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the multi-vehicle crash. 

More details are expected as emergency operations continue and authorities provide an official update on the incident.
